Five out of five stars

Quality humor for the aviation enthusiast

This book is a collection of anecdotes regarding the process and practice of flying airplanes. The author is a very experienced pilot, having flown combat planes in World War II and then went on to jets, at one time holding the world’s record for speed. In this case he is using his experience to amuse the reader by describing some of the more zany events in the history of flight.

The structure of the anecdotes is that there is text on the page on the left side that describes the event while the right contains a set of illustrative cartoons. The text and illustrations are both by the author and the quality of both are quite good. While there is naturally some poetic license of exaggeration in the stories, they never go too far from what is the obvious truth.

While this material is targeted at aviation enthusiasts, all of the situations and explanations are easily understood by those not in the field. Therefore, this is a good book of humor that happens to be based on aviation that all can understand.
